Default Deep Wound and degen

This must have come up at some point between original release and now, but despite playing since the Oct. 2004 BWE, I'm just running into it now. How do Deep Wound and degen interact? I know Deep Wound has some strange effects associated with health bar updates, etc. But this seems really odd.

Try this on a practice dummy:

Seeping Wound
Iron Palm
Falling Spider
Twisting Fangs

Health bar will quickly disappear, but the dummy will remain standing for a few seconds after it appears to run out of health. Every time. You can also test this by standing between the Students of Deep Wound and Bleeding until you expire. You'll stand there for several seconds with 1 HP and -3 degen.

In both cases it looks like degen completely ignores the Deep Wound condition. Is this a well-known fact that I missed until now?

Deep wound doesn't take visible effect on the health bar until the next hit afaik.

If that's the case, then if after applying DW with Fangs you hit the target another time or 2, when the health bar runs out it should immediately drop. This does not happen. Nor does hitting the target once its health bar runs out immediately drop it.

I don't think this is related to the issue of 'getting a bar update' from the server.

Sorry, that was really unclear. Hitting the target a couple times after applying DW doesn't change the result. The target still hangs on after its health bar runs out. Same thing goes for hitting it after the bar has already run dry.

I have noticed this as well while running my degen N/Me.

Using the Phantom Pain/Shatter Delusions combo, I noticed that if I used the combo BEFORE applying degeneration, the degeneration would not kill the target.

However, I found that if I use the degeneration and then apply the Phantom Pain/Shatter Delusions combo, the damage from Shatter Delusions would kill the target.

So, it seems that degeneration won't in and of itself kill a target (at least an NPC one - haven't tried this on live opponents) that is sufferring from a deep wound unless it takes at least a minimal amount of damage when the health bar reaches zero. I'd like to hear a better explanation of why this occurs.

That makes sense if you wait until the degen has taken the target down to near 20% max health (or close enough for Shatter to make up the difference). It looks like degen is calculated against max health. It obviously takes health penalties from runes into account, but apparently not health reduction from deep wound.
